U.S. figure skater Vincent Zhou made his debut in Pyeongchang on Friday by making history—the 17-year-old from Palo Alto became the first figure skater ever to land a quadruple lutz during the games. Zhou was reportedly one of only three figure skaters planning to attempt the move, one of the most difficult jumps a skater can perform. Performing his routine to Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” Zhou scored 84.53 in the men’s short program, likely putting him among the top contenders for the upcoming free skate competition. He told reporters after his performance he “was trying to remember to breathe” as he took to the ice. “My entire life ran through my head.”
