Three American special forces troops were killed and two others were injured Wednesday when they were ambushed in Niger, according to multiple reports. “We can confirm reports that a joint U.S. and Nigerian patrol came under hostile fire in southwest Niger,” said Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Falvo, a spokesman for U.S. Africa Command. The troops killed and injured in the attack were Army Green Berets, an official told The New York Times. U.S. forces are in the region to provide support to African governments fighting Boko Haram and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. President Trump has been briefed on the attack.
