Attorney General Eric Holder said Friday that the federal government will be giving federal marriage benefits to the same-sex couples who got marriage licenses after a federal judge struck down the ban on gay marriage in Utah. 1,300 gay couples wed in Utah before the Supreme Court issued a stay on Monday. “I am confirming today that, for purposes of federal law, these marriages will be recognized as lawful and considered eligible for all relevant federal benefits on the same terms as other same-sex marriages,” Holder said in a video. Holder's move comes after the governor's office said the state would not recognize the marriages.
