More than 1 million kilograms of beef that could be contaminated with E. coli have been recalled by a Canadian plant, the U.S. food Safety Inspection Service said. The affected meat products entered the United States from a plant run by XL Foods Inc. in Brooks, Alberta. The U.S. had originally estimated that about 404,000 kilograms of products from the facility had been imported and were subject to the recall. Thirty-five percent of Canada’s beef products are processed at the XL plant.
