ABC’s Good Morning America aired on Tuesday morning previously unseen footage of security guards tackling an anti-Ryan Lochte protester during the previous evening’s airing of Dancing With the Stars. During the Olympic swimmer’s first dance routine for the live season premiere, several protesters rushed the floor, causing host Tom Bergeron to interrupt the broadcast and cut to commercial. ABC’s cameras did not show the protesters on screen, nor did they show security officials taking down the activists and handcuffing them. Unaired footage shows several men wearing T-shirts printed with Lochte’s name inside the universal “no” symbol. When ABC reporters caught up with the cuffed protesters after the incident, they explained they were opposed to the swimmer’s appearance on the program because of last month’s controversy in which he was caught lying about a confrontation with Brazilian security guards at a Rio gas station. USA Swimming handed Lochte a 10-month suspension for the ordeal.
