Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s choice to replace him in Congress was deemed ineligible to run by the California Secretary of State’s Office after he had already filed for re-election to the California Assembly. Assembly member Vince Fong faced a lawsuit from far-right challenger David Giglio over the legal uncertainty.
