Sometimes, you don’t have to pay $100 or more to see a good show in New York City. Sometimes, you just have to be in the right place at the right time—like the unsuspecting souls lucky enough to be on the A train when the cast of the hit stage show The Lion King entered.
Without their animal costumes, the singers looked like everyday city dwellers, distinguishing themselves by launching into an a capella rendition of the iconic opening number, ‘Circle of Life’—and not inching up the car asking for change.
From the looks of the straphangers holding out their phones to get video, everyone on board seemed to enjoy the impromptu performance. Though, one guy towards the bottom left of the screen at about the 1:21 mark wasn't as moved as the others.
It’s a classic New York moment: unexpected, joyous, and just a little awkward and uncomfortable. One can only hope that the cast of Hedwig and the Angry Inch plans something like this next.
