Vivek Ramaswamy floated the idea of renaming one of the Great Lakes during a recent campaign appearance, in yet another move ripped from the Trump playbook. Addressing a crowd in Toledo last week, the GOP candidate for Ohio governor pitched a new name for the nearby Lake Erie. “I like what President Trump’s done with the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of America,” Ramaswamy said. “Anybody think if there’s a Lake Michigan, maybe there should be a Lake Ohio around here? I’m feeling that, so we’ll talk about that a little bit more as this campaign progresses.” The announcement, mimicking Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, was met with rapturous applause from those in attendance from the Lucas Country Republican Party. But Ramaswamy’s spokesman quickly poured cold water on the idea and insisted the remark was just a joke. “The audience understood it was a joke,” they said. “Perhaps the media will someday get a sense of humor. Vivek is focused on real policies to Make Ohio Great Again.”
