Washington Postmanaging editor Krissah Thompson will lead the development of the paper’s “Third Newsroom” project, executive editor Matt Murray said on Monday in a memo obtained by The Daily Beast. The newsroom, a pet project of embattled CEO Will Lewis, will focus on “service and social media” journalism along with creating unspecified new “products” for the paper. “Krissah, a two-decade-plus veteran of the Post, is uniquely qualified to shepherd us,” Murray wrote. Murray is set to take the helm of the new newsroom after the 2024 election, upon which a new executive editor will step in to run the core newsroom. He was set to be succeeded by Telegraph editor Robert Winnett, but Winnett withdrew from the role following a series of reports by The Daily Beast, The New York Times, and the Post itself on a host of questionable and unethical reporting practices by him and Lewis.
