Acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson is best known for his sprawling American epics, but he also likes to make music videos for his friends. His latest is "Sapokanikan," by indie singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom.
Newsom lent her talents to Anderson's most recent film, 2014's Inherent Vice, in which she played a Thornton Wilder-esque narrator who may or may not really exist. Newsom's ethereal quality is on full display in "Sapokanikan," as she dances and walks through Greenwich Village. Her Kate Bush-like vocals complement the handheld camera and her bouncing, almost floating figure.
"Sapokanikan" is the first single off Newsom's upcoming album Divers, due out in October.
