Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was interrupted by shouting protesters Wednesday morning during his Senate confirmation hearing to be Donald Trump’s secretary of state. As Rubio praised post-WWII U.S. foreign policy for leading “to the emergence of stability and democracy and prosperity” in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region, a protester exploded, bringing back an old Trump taunt, “And we’ve had forever war ever since! Little Marco, keep your hands… off of our country!” Security swiftly removed the protesters from the chamber. This incident was one of several at Rubio’s hearing. In response to a protester shouting in Spanish, Rubio quipped, “I get bilingual protesters.” The disturbances at Rubio’s confirmation hearing mirror Tuesday’s “parade of screaming demonstrators” at defense nominee Pete Hegseth’s Senate confirmation hearing. Protesters at the Hegseth hearing made similar anti-war arguments, shouting that Hegseth is “a Christian Zionist” in response to Hegseth’s position on the war in Gaza.
