The Mandalorian, the upcoming live-action Star Wars series set after the fall of the Empire, has announced five new cast members. Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, and Werner Herzog have all been confirmed as members of the series, which will stream on Disney+. Actors Pedro Pascal, Nick Nolte, and Gina Carano were previously announced, and Dave Filoni, who worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels will direct the first episode. As with previous entries into the ever-expanding Star Wars franchise, details about characters for the new installment are a well-kept secret—though it has been confirmed by Disney that Pascal will have a starring role. The series will pick up before the emergence of the First Order and will follow the travails of a lone gunfighter—presumably Pascal—in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. “We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” said series writer and executive producer Jon Favreau.

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow will direct additional episodes. Favreau is executive producing along with Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Disney is also in production for a series starring Diego Luna, centered on his popular character Cassian Andor from Rogue One.
