Will Smith said he and Jada Pinkett Smith “broke up within” their marriage and “got back together again” to avoid divorce, People reports. In Monday’s episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk, the couple reportedly said they didn’t even “consider” getting a divorce but “essentially had to destroy [their] marriage” in order to start anew. “I was devastated even worse than a divorce,” Will Smith said. “We had to rebuild with new rules and something way, completely different.” Smith said he’d long been blind to his family’s unhappiness, and didn’t understand the full extent of their issues until his daughter, Willow Smith, shaved her head and refused to make music. “I saw for the first time what Jada had been saying the whole time about hiding behind my ego, my dreams and my desires and pretending like it’s love… And I realized [Jada] wanted none of the stuff I had built,” Smith said. “The house was too big… she didn’t want to travel the way we traveled… She didn’t want all of her kids to be getting trolled on Twitter. She didn’t want any of that.”
