Speculation that Kate Middleton will be well enough to hand trophies to the winners at the Wimbledon tennis tournament is hitting a fever pitch. However, Wimbledon said Monday that it will only announce if Kate is going to hand out trophies on the day of each final. The men’s singles final will take place on Sunday and the women’s singles final is happening the day before. The Telegraph reports that if Kate is not able to carry out her duties as patron of the tennis club, the Duchess of Gloucester will step in as a replacement. A friend of Kate’s told The Daily Beast last week that Kate would “dearly love” to attend the tennis championship. The Princess of Wales was last seen in public on June 15 for Trooping the Colour, her first appearance since her abdominal surgery in January and subsequent cancer diagnosis in March.
