Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Proposes Union Compromise

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has proposed a compromise with state senate Democrats about unions’ right to collective bargaining, emails released Tuesday show. According to the emails, Walker has offered to allow some collective bargaining with unions, and sent emails as recently as Sunday night. Under his current proposal, unions would only be allowed to negotiate a new salary increase no greater than inflation, but the emails indicate he would be willing to allow bargaining on salary without any limit. Meanwhile, reports from the exiled “Wisconsin 14”—the Democratic senators who fled the state to avoid a vote—showed the group may be weakening and could possibly return to the state soon to hammer out a compromise. Numerous reports Tuesday said senate minority leader Mark Miller personally delivered a letter to Walker about a compromise.
