Makers of all things knitting, Wool and the Gang is jumping on the sustainability bandwagon (even more so than promoting you to knit your own sweater) and has launched an eco-conscious yarn made from recycled water bottles. Dubbed New Wave Yarn, it's an almost 50/50 split of recycled plastic bottles and cotton (there are three bottles in each ball of yarn).

Bottles are cleaned, melted down, and that liquid is squeezed and shaped into a fiber. That fiber is then woven with cotton to create the yarn. Wool land the Gang isn't the first to take recycled plastic and make knitwear out of it, Everlane launched their Re-New line recently that has a set of fleeces made from plastic bottles, but this is the first fully-functional weaving yarn made from the recycled material.

"Since I started Wool and the Gang, I’ve been on a mission to find a way to repurpose recycled plastic in a yarn that’s easy to knit with while also doing its part for the planet," said Jade Harwood, founder of Wool and the Gang. "Together with our Gang, we are always looking for opportunities to use our passion for knitting with small steps to help our planet."
