Thirteen-year-old Olivia Moultrie—once the youngest girls soccer player to publicly accept an academic scholarship offer—has now signed a multiyear endorsement deal with Nike, The New York Times reports. Moultrie, who at age 11 had accepted a scholarship offer to play at the University of North Carolina, has signed on with the sports agency Wasserman Media Group to land the Nike contract, effectively foregoing her college athletic eligibility. Moultrie's agent, Spencer Wadsworth, said the move was worth more financially than a four-year scholarship at a top university, valued at around $300,000. Moultrie has drawn worldwide attention for her technique on the field and her family’s unorthodox approach to her training. She has long played with older girls on the United States youth national team and with boys’ clubs near her family’s home in Canyon Country, California, the Times reports.
