James Warren was an editor at large for The Daily Beast and former managing editor and Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Tribune. He was a founder of the Chicago News Cooperative, a nonprofit that for more than two years produced Chicago content, including his twice-weekly column, for the Chicago edition of The New York Times. He's also an MSNBC analyst. His recent awards include ones for column writing from the Education Writers Association and the Annie E. Casey Foundation for pieces on poverty and families.
