William McKeen is the author of the just-published Mile Marker Zero, about the writers, artists and musicians who prospered in Key West's laissez-faire culture, and Outlaw Journalist (2008), a biography of Hunter S. Thompson. He teaches at Boston University, where he chairs the department of journalism.
