A 22-year-old police officer, Natalie Corona, has been shot dead after responding to a three-car crash in Davis, California. Police said the officer was shot around 7 p.m. and was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where she later died from her injuries. ABC7 reports Corona only graduated from the police academy last July. The gunman was described by police as a white man in his twenties who was wearing a baseball cap, black jacket, jeans and black boots. Late Thursday night, police surrounded a house and later reported that the suspect had died, writing: “The shooter has been found, deceased, inside a home near 5th and E St in Davis with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” Students at UC Davis were told to shelter in place while law-enforcement officers descended on the small college town—the order has now been lifted.
