Chris Christie has hit out at Jared Kushner, accusing Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser of carrying out a political “hit job” on him as an act of revenge for the prosecution of his father. In his new book, Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics, seen ahead of its release by The Guardian, the former New Jersey governor directly blamed Ivanka Trump’s husband for orchestrating his removal from Trump’s White House transition team in 2016. “Steve Bannon… made clear to me that one person and one person only was responsible for the faceless execution that Steve was now attempting to carry out. Jared Kushner, still apparently seething over events that had occurred a decade ago,” Christie writes. He claims Kushner was bitter about the prosecution of his real-estate developer father, Charles, by Christie while he was a U.S. attorney in 2005. Charles Kushner was charged with witness tampering and tax evasion and served more than a year in federal prison, after he admitted to have hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law and then sent a recording of their encounter together to his own sister as retribution for his cooperation with federal authorities against him. “The kid’s been taking an ax to your head with the boss ever since I got here,” Bannon is said to have told Christie. The book is due out Jan. 29.
