Demi Lovato has deleted her Twitter account after being hit with a backlash over her tweets about 21 Savage—the rapper at risk of deportation after authorities claimed he’s secretly British. The rapper, real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is in custody after Immigration and Customs Enforcement claimed he’s been living in the U.S. illegally. The story has inspired hundreds of memes about 21 Savage’s alleged Britishness, including one Lovato shared that showed a hand writing on paper with a quill by candlelight and the caption: “This how 21 Savage be writing his verses.” Lovato was criticized Sunday night for making light of the situation after tweeting: “So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl.” Following the backlash, she wrote: “If you’re gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with some original not involving drugs.” Before deleting her account, she added: “Fuck Twitter. This is why I don’t tweet anymore.”
