The baby, who is being carried by a surrogate, is due in six weeks.

Andy Cohen, host and executive producer of Bravo's late night chat show Watch What Happens Live as well as overseer of its Real Housewives franchise, shocked his audience in the final WWHL live show of 2018 by revealing he is about to become a first-time father at 50.

At first, it seemed the out-gay star was about to announce he was leaving the show or network, but around a specially assembled panel of 'OG' Real Housewives, Cohen instead said he had to "share a little personal news of my own."

His voice breaking, Cohen said, "After many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science, if all goes according to plan in about six weeks time I am going to become a father thanks to a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future."

Cohen added: "Family means everything to me, and having one of my own is something that I have wanted in my heart for my entire life, and though it's taken me longer than most to get there I cannot wait for what I envision to be the most rewarding chapter yet."

The "Housewives" and audience applauded and cheered, as Cohen signed off by wishing his audience a "happy holidays," and "Here's to 2019."

CNN viewers can watch Cohen present the network's New Year's Eve celebrations from New York City's Times Square with buddy Anderson Cooper.
