Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of Britain’s left-leaning Labour party, said Monday that his party will support an amendment calling for a second referendum on the country’s decision to leave the European Union. “The prime minister is recklessly running down the clock, in an attempt to force MPs to choose between her botched deal and a disastrous No Deal. We cannot and will not accept,” Corbyn said. While outlining his party’s policy agenda for the week, he noted that “in line with our conference policy, we are committed to also putting forward or supporting an amendment in favor of a public vote to prevent a damaging Tory Brexit being forced on the country.” The move marks a change of heart from Corbyn who has been reluctant to accept growing calls from within his party to back a second vote. It comes days after both major political parties suffered from defections. Many of those exiting Labour slammed Corbyn for not supporting a new referendum, which could potentially allow the public another shot at rejecting Brexit in its entirety.
