Russian lawmakers are celebrating Attorney General William Barr’s summary of the Mueller report, claiming it as proof the investigation was built on “two years of unceasing lies.” Barr’s summary claims the special counsel found no evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia in the 2016 election—however, Barr also said that while the report “does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.” Russian lawmakers appear to be ignoring that second part, with Konstantin Kosachev, a senator in Russia’s upper house of parliament, saying: “So, Mueller’s long-awaited report proved what was known in Russia from the very beginning: There was no collusion between Trump and any of his team with the Kremlin.” Russian senator Alexei Pushkov said: “From the very start it was a biased, artificial, provocative, conspiratorial, designed-to-fuel-hatred towards Trump campaign.” Democrats are now lobbying to see Mueller’s full report over the coming days, and the Democratic-held House is also expected to call on Barr to testify on how he came to his conclusions on whether the president obstructed justice.
