Last night, the progressive challenger said she wanted Lipinski to have a "very painful evening," as results were still coming in.

Marie Newman, the progressive challenger who nearly knocked off incumbent conservative Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski in an Illinois primary battle on Tuesday, conceded the contest on Wednesday morning. “After reviewing the results, we know that we lost by a thin margin,” Newman said in a statement. "It was a good fight. Since we started our campaign, Dan Lipinski has moved his position on healthcare, a path to citizenship, and the need for a fair minimum wage. We put him on notice that we expect better for all of the people in our district." Last night, as results were still coming in, Newman declined to concede and said she “would like Mr. Lipinski to have a very painful evening.” —Gideon Resnick
