More than two weeks after the special congressional election for Ohio’s 12th congressional district, Republican candidate and state Sen. Troy Balderson was officially declared the winner by the Associated Press. Democratic candidate Danny O’Connor vastly over-performed in the district President Trump won by 11 points in 2016, and one which has not sent a Democrat to Congress since 1981. The race was too close to call on the night of the election. The two candidates will compete against each other again in November's midterm elections. “I’m humbled by the support I've received from voters and look forward to representing Ohio’s 12th Congressional district in Congress,” Balderson said in a statement. “Danny O’Connor ran a hard-fought race, but I look forward to earning the support of voters for a fourth time in November as I share my track record of getting things done for Ohioans, including balancing the budget, cutting taxes and creating an environment for job creation.”
