Rep. Steve King confirmed Thursday that he will run for a 10th term as an Iowa congressman—and said that he has nothing to apologize for despite questioning why white supremacism was seen as a bad thing. King was quoted by The New York Times in January saying: “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization—how did that language become offensive?” Leading Republicans, including Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, criticized the remark, and House Republicans stripped him of his committee posts. But on an Iowa Public Television show that will air Friday, he was asked by host David Yepsen if he was sorry for anything he had said and replied: “I have nothing to apologize for, Dave.” He went on to tell voters in his northwest Iowa district: “Don’t let the elitists in this country, the power brokers in this country, tell you who’s going to represent you in the United States Congress.”
