No one—not even Donald Trump—is able to predict exactly what the president will say in Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, but Politico reports that one policy goal is widely expected: an end to the HIV epidemic in the United States by 2030. One of the four unnamed officials who spoke to Politico made clear that, while the speech is not finalized, there are plans for Trump to announce a new HIV strategy that would see health officials first focusing on communities across around 20 states where the most HIV infections occur, with the ultimate goal being to stop new infections entirely over a 10-year period. Over one million Americans have HIV and about 40,000 are newly infected every year. The plan has reportedly been shaped by CDC Director Robert Redfield.
